The tender, flaky fish in the fish and chips is another favorite—golden and crispy, and served in generous portions. Diners rave about the locally brewed stouts, particularly the unique oyster stout, which complements the seafood perfectly. The relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for a casual lunch or dinner, and the friendly service keeps customers coming back. Some visitors find the seating limited during peak times, which can lead to longer wait times or difficulty finding a spot. This is particularly true on busy weekends when the beautiful weather draws larger crowds. Others have noted that the service can be stretched thin during rush hours, but the staff maintain a friendly demeanor despite the pressure. The casual vibe may not appeal to those seeking a more formal dining experience. Parking can also be a hassle, with only paid parking available nearby. Finally, while many love the simplicity of the menu, some diners may find it lacking in variety if they are looking for more gourmet options.
Lovely rustic experience right by the seashore and yacht club. Delicious breakfast barms and good coffee. Perfect spot for a midway stop on a walk along the beachfront. Very very handy for our stay at the Whitstable beach house. Shame missed the happy hour oysters - fantastic value
Great, fresh oysters, turnover so fast you know they've never been lying around for long. Big portion of cod and chips and locally brewed beer, including the famous oyster stout. Would go back, without a doubt.
Great spot for some fresh oysters. The native oysters are meaty, but they also have rock oysters as an option. The chips are chunky and great. Good range of drinks on tap (& bottles). Fast service. Very popular with tourists and locals - location is key. There's outdoor seating available.
This is our go to fish and chips in Whitstable. We always return as it’s so fresh and you can sit and look out to sea while you eat. The portions are really big so we like to share a large cod and chips between two and grab a set of oysters to go with. The drinks are all local which is lovely, I would particularly recommend the oyster stouts. You can also get donuts fresh to order and proper ice cream. The staff are always very friendly and laid back even when you can see that they’re under pressure. It’s such a nice atmosphere to be able to see the oysters being shucked on the seafront or watch your donuts go through the machine. Will always recommend the Forge and will always return!
Nestled near the scenic shores of Tinkerton, Forge offers a delightful open-air dining experience that perfectly complements its standout fish and chips. The fresh sea breeze and relaxed beachside atmosphere set the stage for a meal that’s both comforting and memorable. The fish was beautifully cooked—golden and crispy on the outside, with tender, flaky white meat inside. The batter had just the right balance of seasoning and crunch, never overpowering the delicate flavor of the fish. Paired with perfectly cooked chips—crisp on the outside, fluffy within—it was a classic done exceptionally well. What elevates the experience is the setting. The open-air layout lets you soak in the coastal views and ambiance, making it ideal for a laid-back lunch or early evening meal. Friendly service rounds out the visit, making Forge a must-visit spot for anyone craving a quality seaside fish and chips.
This spot, located right by the beach path, is a great place to visit despite slightly higher prices than the main port area. It’s well worth it, especially since they stay open a bit longer than other places. The oysters are fresh, and the fish and chips are outstanding, making it a must-try for seafood lovers. While the queue can get long, it moves quickly, so patience pays off. Seating is limited to shared benches around the hut, but you can always find space.
Oyster Happy hour every day from 5-6PM. 1/2 dozer £6.25 . Amazing fresh and nice! The staff is friendly and good smiling even when they all really busy in “ happy hour” 🍻
I highly recommend the fish and chips, featuring line-caught cod cooked to perfection. The scallops and rock oysters are a must for seafood lovers, and don't overlook the breakfast baps if you visit early.
